Welcome to The Eagles Head website
Full details of the pub's opening times can be found here.
The Eagles Head is just a mile from the Grizedale Visitor Centre, Go Ape
and The North Face cycle trail, and is but a few hundred yards from
Grizedale Campsite and Riding Centre.
Originally a 16th century farmhouse, where the farmer and his wife would
have brewed their own to supplement their income, the property was once
one of three ale houses in the village. In 1785, the Ainslie family inherited
the Grizedale Estate by the marriage of Henry Ainslie with Agnes Ford.
After Henry's death, his son, Montague, bought Bloomery House from
Thomas Turner in 1838 and converted it into an inn called The Eagles
Head, taking the name from the Ainslie crest. The inn was run by a tenant
manager, with Jane Turner, Thomas' wife, as its first landlady. After
Montague Ainslie died, the inn was auctioned off in 1893 as part of the
Grizedale Estate and was bought by the brewers, Case and Company Ltd.
Today, The Eagles Head is a freehouse with no ties and prides itself on
its real ales and fine food. Full of old character and charm, the pub is cosy
and welcoming, with a lovely, happy atmosphere where visitors and locals
mix and enjoy the pleasure of good company. There is also a pool room
and an attractive beer garden for those sunny days and balmy evenings.
